I have been away from this blog for far too long!
But here is my new favourite day moisturiser- it has an SPF, smells gorgeous, is really hydrating, and best of all has some light coverage. It leaves a lovely a lovely sheer finish, and is reasonably priced too.

First off- Merry Christmas everyone! I’m sure everyone has eaten, drunk, and been merry. One of the biggest fallouts from the festive season can be your skin. Can the damage be undone in time for that New Years Party? The good news is that with a little work your skin can look better in just a few days.

If people wish to prevent sunburn and the risk of skin cancer, they should slap on the SPF 30. So says Dr Ike Iheanacho, editor of the influential Drug and Therapeutics Bulletin (DTB).

The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (Nice) published guidance in January saying people should wear broad spectrum (UVA and UVB) sunscreens with a minimum SPF 15 . However, this level of SPF is too low and not based on how people actually use sun creams, says an editorial in the DTB.

I know they look funny, but they are a little ball of wonder for you, inside and out.

When eaten, avocados do wonders for your skin (amongst other things). They are absolutely jam-packed with vitamins and nutrients important for healthy skin. More

Did you know that your lips are just as easy to burn as the rest of your skin? So an SPF is really important to prevent sun damage which can cause blisters, premature aging, and even skin cancer. Here are some yummy lipbalms I’ve used and loved- all really cheap too.

Blistex
Blistex have an amazing range of lipbalms, most of which have a decent SPF. The Lip Conditioner is a classic, containing aloe vera and cocoa butter and an SPF of 20. I love the Strawberry Lip Balm which tastes gorgeous and has an SPf of 16- its also waterproof for 80 minutes.

I have been using Ri na Mara (“King of the Sea”) skincare products for the last couple of months. It’s not often Irish beauty products come around so I have been very excited about this range! The products are available in Europe, USA, Canada and Australia.

The products contain up to 7% seaweed, compared to only 1% or less in most seaweed alternatives. The seaweed is hand harvested and organic and many types are used, including Laminaria Digitata,Chondrus Crispus, Fucus Serratus, Fucus Vesicolosus and Ascophyllum Nodosum. The seaweed off the west coast of Ireland which hosts some of the purest marine waters in Europe. More

So its been an extremely long time since I’ve posted anything on this and I am suitably embarassed. I was visiting Ireland and the UK if that is any defence?

Anyway I was very excited to go home, great seeing friends and family etc, but also to pick up my favourite beauty products which they just dont sell in the land of OZ! Ah Boots, how I’ve missed you.

Well in Australia summer is coming, and I am as pasty as they come. And in Ireland, summer is gone. Either way- it’s a great time to get out the fake tans! And not the dodgy cheap ones. At the moment I’m absolutely loving Trilogy’s new Instant Bronzing Gel for when I’m too lazy to apply my tan the night before.

The unique formulation combines Caramel from non GMO Cane Sugar for instant colour, with a natural, high performance, ECOCERT self-tanning ingredient, which works with your skin to develop a safe and natural looking tan. The gel also contains Aloe Vera and Vitamin E.

A friend of mine with sensitive skin tried out this product- review below!

While I wasn’t expecting much from a bargain $5 clearance deal in Priceline, I didn’t quite imagine the carnage “Olay Complete Touch of Sun” would reign on my skin.
The extra blurb on the 200ml squeezable tube describes it as a “body moisturiser plus a touch of sunless tanner”. Being in the depths of a Sydney winter I thought my skin could do with a little extra glow, reminiscent of recent holidays. However, I was sent much further back in time to teenage acne era (funny that as I never had acne).

Miessence is a fabulous organic brand I’ve recently discovered. The brand is environmentally aware and never tests on animals. It also has an absolutely huge range of products! From skin, hair, cosmetic, body, baby care, and health products, there is something for everyone. You can check them out here.

I’ve been trying out the range for dry/mature skin. The products smell fantastic and the texture is gorgeous.
Rejuvenating Cleanser
This foaming cleanser is a great way to wake your skin up in the mornings. It has a creamy texture and skin feels squeaky clean after. However, if you’re removing makeup I recommend using a cream cleanser with cotton wool.

For once it is sunny in both Australia and Ireland- yay! So slap on the SPF. Aside from protection against skin cancer, an SPF will protect your face against aging. Exposure to ultraviolet light, UVA or UVB, from sunlight accounts for 90% of the symptoms of premature skin aging
But, aside from an SPF you need a moisturiser that works for your skin in other ways too. Here are some of the best everyday facial SPF moisturisers we’ve tested. More

A while back I became interested in Subtle Energies and their unique approach to skincare. Their practice is the use of rare and beneficial oils from India, combined with a European standard of natural skincare. All manufacturing and testing is done in Australia. So I have been using this face mask once a fortnight.

Caroline Louise Forsling, 35, has filled a $2 million lawsuit against the cosmetics giant. She has alleged that a photo of her face was used in the ad for Plantscription serum by Origins, which is owned by Estee Lauder, without her knowledge and consent. The photograph, which she says was a test shot taken during a shoot for an ad for a different Estée Lauder-owned company, shows her make-up-free with her hair pulled back from her face.

As a massive fan of Trilogy (their Rosehip Oil is a Godsend and their Everything Balm is amazing) I was delighted to receive a batch of products to sample. However much I love Trilogy though, I couldnt justify trying their sensitive skin range as I just dont have sensitive skin. So I gave it to a friend who has the most extreme case of sensitivity I’ve ever seen. Her review is below.
The Hype An exceptionally gentle and calming fluid designed for intolerant, easily irritated skin in need of peace, comfort and soothing hydration. Combines natural spring water and calming extracts of Chamomile and Calendula with moisture-repairing plant oils to help calm your complexion and protect the weakened skin barrier of sensitive skin.
The Reviews
“Ideal for restoring balance and treating delicate complexions.”
