Although released a while back in the UK and Ireland, KFC have just launched their ‘Double Down’ burger in Australia.
At only $7.95 it is a terrifyingly cheap heart attack on a plate- the Double Down has two slices of bacon and cheese sandwiched between two slabs of fried chicken. The bunless burger weighs in at 212 grams, including 32g of fat and 1380mg of sodium.
So, the burger would take up about a third of the average person’s calorie intake per day, without providing essential nutrients. As well as the lack of fibre and salad (which means the calories are empty), the high sodium content is a cause for concern. The average person should consume under 2300mg of sodium a day, and if you have high blood pressure, less than 1500mg.
Somebody has kindly taken an actual photo of it- see what it looks like when not completely photoshopped by KFC. Yuck.
