My Smoothie Obsession Continues

Smoothies are great for so many reasons. I’ve become a hardcore fan over the past 3 years and have had improvements in my digestion, skin, and overall health that I directly attribute to them!

You can pack way more healthy ingredients into a smoothie than you would be able to eat in one sitting. As the food is already broken down when it hits your stomach, your body spends less energy digesting it and more time absorbing the nutrients, so they can work their magic on your health and skin immediately. And you can really experiment with flavours and supplements to meet your specific needs.

Here are my two staple recipes. You’ll need a good blender but it’s a huge investment in your health. I love my new Magimix which is a mid-range option but there are so many out in the market now.

Green Breakfast Smoothie                                        so much goodness in here! my staple breakfast based on the glowing green smoothie by Kimberly Snyder. I do 2 cups of water (or coconut water when I have it), 100 grams of organic spinach, a whole romaine lettuce (also known as cos), half a cucumber, about 5 celery stalks, two sweet fruits (such as apple or pear), and a banana.  If you’re having this for breakfast, it makes about 2.5 servings. The half is always handy to keep in the fridge for a pre-meal snack, and can also be frozen.
Perfect Protein Smoothie. This changes all the time but I usually mix about 500mls of a non dairy milk (unsweetend almond is my fave) with a vegan protein powder, frozen berries, chia seeds, and banana. Top with delicious things such as coconut and goji berries. Perfect for post-workout or when you're feeling peckish.
